It is THAT time of year! Time for the annual TCNE “Tiffany’s Closet” annual Fire Sales THIS weekend!

If you didn’t get a chance to come and browse the fabulous fashions at First Event, nows your chance at TCNE in Waltham. We have:

TCNE House Party and I AM Party – What to do?

If you’ve checked our TCNE Calendar for this weekend, you KNOW this weekend is choc-a-bloc FULL of fun stuff to do! Between Friday and Saturday there are SEVEN major fun things to do, so, what to do? Well here’s an idea:

Come to the TCNE House Party at 7PM, have a meal, meet some great new people or some who’ve been in our community for a while, either way they and you will get alot out of it
Go to the MTPC I AM PARTY afterwards. You’ll have a blast, dance the night away, and help kick off an outstanding new initiative for our community

“I AM” Trans People Speak Party, Saturday, February 18th at 8PM

It can’t be denied that MTPC has been hugely helpful to the entire transgender community. To that end, TCNE would like to let all our reader’s know about a BIG kick off party they are holding on February 18th at the Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain. Here are the details:

The “I AM: Trans People Speak COMMUNITY” project kickoff party takes place on Saturday February 18th at at the Midway Café at 3496 Washington Street in Jamaica Plain, MA, doors open at 8:00pm. New videos will be shown throughout the night and the program will begin around 9:30pm with a performance to follow. This event is 21+ and there is a $5-$10 sliding scale charge at the door, and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. This event is open to the public and the media.

Massachusetts Transgender Mental Health Access Study Launched

The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition is collaborating with a team of Master of Social Work students from Salem State University to conduct a research study to determine if transgender adults have access to culturally competent mental health clinicians and services in Massachusetts. Led by Laurie Auffant, a long time transgender activist and now social work student, the research team includes Sarah Grandmaison, Kristine Lassiter, and Rachel Sherwin. The survey was launched January 20^th in Peabody, Massachusetts at the First Event conference, organized by Tiffany Club of New England. Tiffany Club of New England agreed to collaborate in the project by promoting data collection. The survey is open to any adult eighteen years-old and above, residing in Massachusetts, who identifies as transgender or gender variant. The survey can be accessed online:

The goals of the survey include:

Documenting whether transgender adults have access to culturally competent mental health clinicians and services in Massachusetts.
Documenting geographic differences of mental health clinicians and services by county.
Documenting the time and distance traveled for mental health appointments.
Documenting differences in service delivery by type of mental health clinician.
Documenting differences based on gender identity, racial identity, economic resources, transportation, and age of participant.
Documenting if transgender adults are treated respectfully during mental health appointments.
Documenting whether transgender adults have ever experienced hostility or been denied access to mental health services because of their gender identity.
Remaining accountable to the transgender community by providing a report and sharing it publicly.

First Event 2012 Will Have Rooms To Change

If you are attending First Event 2012 and need a place to change clothing in, we’ll have three spaces for you:

We will have 2 changing rooms available (regular hotel rooms) – 1 for the girls and 1 for the guys.
In addition, Saturday from 9 am – 5 pm we’ll have a room on the 2nd floor to use as a fitting room for the consignment shop.

Just ask at the registration desk and we’ll get you all set!

Hotel Rooms STILL Available at First Event 2012 – Read This If You Can’t Reserve A Room

If you are trying to book a room for First Event this weekend, please do NOT do it through Marriott Corporate or online. Read on to read WHY and to learn what to do in order to get a discount.

There’s been a problem with the booking code and Marriott 800-line reservations are mistakenly telling people who First Event 2012 is sold out.

First Event 2012 does have great attendance numbers but the event is NOT SOLD OUT – we have plenty of rooms available for all nights!

To book a room during First Event, either call the Peabody Marriott directly at 978-977-9700 or email First Evenet 2012 Team Member Andrea at andreaziff@aol.com or call her at 617-872-5845 and you will be able to book at the conference rate of $110 per night.

We are VERY Sorry for the inconvenience. Everything will be ironed out by Marriott on Monday morning.
