Waltham, MA (OPENPRESS) November 18, 2009 — For two nights, January 13th and 14th, 2010, Karen takes the stage at the Peabody Marriot. Says Jamie Haley, chair of FE 2010, “We are excited that Karen will be appearing at First Event. She is a favorite entertainer of the community”
Whether she’s cutting to the heart with her emotion-driven original songs or belting out cover tunes, Karen’s penetrating voice, rhythmic acoustic style and intense emotional energy combine to capture her audience’s attention. A polished performer as well as an excellent songwriter, Karen received a songwriting award from Nashville’s Music City Search in 2002. In addition, several of her songs have been featured on Dawson’s Creek. In 2009 she won the Boston Pride Idol contest and performed at City Hall Plaza.
Karen has spent the past seven summers performing in the Cape Cod vacation destination – Provincetown, MA – and has propelled her self into a full time music career, abandoning her job as an elementary school counselor in 2003. “You’ve got to reach for your dreams…it’s an attitude I’ve always tried to inspire in my students…now I’m living mine!”, says Karen She has performed clubs, festivals, coffee houses, restaurants and colleges in all six New England states as well as New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin and California.
Says Karen, “I am looking forward to playing at the First Event 2010 for several reasons. First, I have admiration for people who have the courage to be honest and true to themselves. Secondly, I believe that this openness and honesty will, person by person, dispel the “fear of what is not understood,” and will move our society forward towards fairness and compassion. And thirdly, it is important to validate and identify with people and to encourage them to live honestly and fully! My music has been described by a fan as “a hope-filled, honest reflection of emotions and experiences we all face.”
