Red Without Blue
by Brooke Sebold, Benita Sills, and Todd Sills (2007, 76 min.). A groundbreaking portrayal of gender, identity, and the bond of twinship, this film follows a pair of identical twins as one transitions from male to female. We witness Mark and Claire Farley and their parents over a period of three years, exploring the Farleys' struggle to redefine their family. Preceded by Whatever Suits You by Ashley Altadonna, (2006, 7 min.) A suit becomes a dress, a boy becomes a girl, and all is right with the world.

She's a Boy I Knew
by Gwen Haworth (Canada, 2007, 70 min.). A comic, heartbreaking, and uplifting autobiographical look at a family whose bonds are strengthened when they face their preconceptions about gender and sexuality.  Filmmaker Haworth shares the story of her transition from Steven to Gwen, and how those closest to her were affected. With the use of archival footage and animation to illustrate her story, we're privy to eloquently articulated feelings of anger, and fear as well as love and compassion. Preceded by The Role I Was Born to Play (Lukas Blakk, Canada, 2007, 9 min.). Borrowing clips from three films about gender bending this piece shows the assumptions, strategies for survival and the need for discussion that alternate gender expressions evoke.

Glamour Boutique now offers La Dame Footwear

At First Event 2008 a new sponsor was featured call La Dame footwear.  What set this new sponsor apart were two things.  First, the company is a shoe company run by an executive from a famous make shoe company.   Second, they decided to offer women's shoes built on a man's last.  The result are gorgeous women's shoes that fit a transgender person's foot to a "T".   You can learn about La Dame footwear at their site link HERE.

And one of the bes parts of this news is that our own Glamour Boutique is selling these unique must have shoes!    Glamour Boutique is featuring a Classic Ladies Pump Made For Men - available NOW!    You can click on over to Glamour Boutique's selection at their link HERE.

Models Resale Going Out of Business Sale

One of TCNE's long time supporter's, Models Resale, is going out of business and is having a sale to end on a BANG.  Here is a letter we received recently including an invitation for TCNE to come and take advantage of their store closing sales:

Dear Ladies,

I am writing to let you know that Models Resale Consignment Boutique will be closing at the end of the business day on Wednesday, April 30, 2008.  Our lease is up and I have decided not to renew or relocate.

I have been operating this business for five successful years and it has been my privilege getting to know you.  My decision to close was based on quality of life issues.   While it is very difficult for me to say goodbye, I will hopefully see you in and around the community.

We are no longer accepting consignments.  However, if you would like to donate to Models Resale please do.  Here is how it works; simply drop off your items, housewares included.  Your unsold items will be dropped off to various shelters and/or womens' organizations in and around the Boston area.

In the interim, we are having a closing PARTY, please be sure to stop by on Saturday, April 26, 2008 during the business day.  I am looking forward to seeing you and to try and have the usual fun and excitement that we had in the past.

We still have many beautiful items at 50% off, and don't forget the Treasure Chest.

I do hope to be able to say thank you in person.  In the event this does not happen I sincerely thank you for your patronage and support for the past five years!

It is wonderful knowing each of you.  With all my good wishes and many thanks,

Kimberly

Tired of talking to yourself?

Don’t sit alone, sit with others! Come to the TG Discussion group. A free, informal, information
discussion group centered around topics YOU  want to talk about with others in a safe, non-threatening environment.

Tuesday, March 25th, is the
Tiffany Club of New England Monthly board meeting

Tuesday, March 25th, is the
Tiffany Club of New England Monthly board meeting.
It's important to note that ALL TCNE Members may attend the board meeting and

may voice opinions.

Tiffany Clubs "government" is representative in nature, so the board you elect into
office votes on the issues but all paying TCNE members may come to bring issues
to the fore.

The time and date are:
  - Tuesday March 25, 2008
  - Time: 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
  - Where:  TCNE Offices in Waltham
  - Frequency:  We hold these monthly
  - Need info? email: info@tcne.org

The meetings are not "free for alls" but run by Robert's Rules of Order;
see:
http://www.robertsrules.com/   While attendees at times are passionate about
what they talk about, polite and professional courtesy is the watchword.

Attendees come in male mode or female mode.  Some are full-time, some are part-time.
Some can't change ahead of time, some can.  It doesn't matter how you attend but who
you are is more than your outward appearance.

Some Agenda Items:
- Minutes from last month's meeting

- two new signs for those who walk up the stairs (foam core type,
  colorful)

- throwing out all the old vacum cleaners and odd electronic equipment
  that has been hanging around

- What are we doing on the election?

- "clean up" weekends at the club...Jewels is making curtains for us,
and, with some elbow grease we can get those up and make some other
low cost cosmetic changes; re-arranging to spruce the club up.  We'll
probably need  to spend a little money for this, not much, but enough to give our
elbow grease some help is all.

- FE2009 update

- Are there any issues you would like to see discussed?  Send them to info@tcne.org  and  membership@tcne.org

Some can't change ahead of time, some can.  It doesn't matter how you attend but who

Here are some agenda items we will be bringing up...there will be *many* others
including old business and new business:

  - FE2008 wrap up/get thoughts on FE2009

  - Elections. We have missed our deadline and are now in violation of our own charter
from what we can tell.  The key appears to be lack of people's desires to run for a variety
of real or perceived reasons. I would suggest that good solid participants in TCNE are
what's key to it's long term life, not necessarily money.

 - Thoughts on how to open up participation of the club's members.  So, how do we
make it possible for regular non-key holders to run Saturday Nights?  Or how do we
energize some to take some leading rolls?

  - Scholarships:  These are closed door, executive session, board only meetings in
order to be respectful of those who have applied for a scholarship membership.  We
never post pics or release personal information about anyone unless they want that to happen.

  - TCNE Fund:  This is something that is a touchy subject but one I feel we must broach.
What I mean by this is not giving away the TCNE operating budget, which keeps our doors
open and allows us to have the necessary funds to run First Event every year, but rather,
putting aside some of our operating budget, starting this year, to give away to worthy  causes.

  - Are there any issues you would like to see discussed?
Send them to info@tcne.org  and  membership@tcne.org

A key differentiator for TCNE is our ability to  help others.  One way we help is by providing
a safe space for people to start trying to figure out what is going on with themselves regarding
being transgender. I think as a club we underestimate this value. There are many who turn
to substance abuse to relieve or help suppress their gender issues.

Wouldn't it be nicer to just deal with who you are constructively and respectfully?

TCNE provides a safe space for that as a stepping stone
to living a better life.  It sounds kinda corny but I think it's true. In fact, many of the trans-women
you see as leaders in the Greater Boston transgender community today took their very first steps
out of the closet and into TCNE's club house.  Why?  Because it was a safe, first step. And they
grew as women and in some cases as men for the few

FtM's we've been blessed to have with us.

TCNE Sponsors Transgender Day of Remembrance

Transgender Day of Remembrance Banner

Tiffany Club of New England is one of the supporters of Boston Transgender Day of Remembrance that is being held on November 18th in Boston.  There are other celebrations in other parts of Massachusetts and New England that might be more convenient for you.   But we'dencourage you to participate in one of them if you can.

Details are on our calendar and here at MTPC's site:
http://www.masstpc.org/projects/dor2007.shtml  This is likely one of the most important events for the transgender community outside of First Event 2008.  All of the community will be at one of these events and something like this can really make you understand how connected we are to each other and how important it is for us to support each other.

Before the event there is the MTPC Town Hall, also something that is valuable to participate in if you can make it.   This year MA StateRepresentative Carl Sciortino will be speaking on House Bill 1722, "An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes".   This should be an exciting and interesting time to join with other across the transgender community.
