While the gains in the acceptance of transgender men and women have been remarkable in the past
few years, the fact remains that violence against transgender people simply because they are transgender
is a reality.
The Transgender Day of Rememberance is a Day set aside to honor those who have died senslessly and
needlessly. It's a day to let others know that murder of transgender men and women simply because they
are transgender cannot be tolerated. It is also a day to remember acts of love and courage as evidenced by
Web posts dedicated to lost loved ones and family members; vigils held in the honor of those murdered;
and kindness to all of us in the Transgender Community by so many.
Around Massachusetts and New England there are quote a few TDOR (Transgender Day of Remembrance)
locations for you to participate in. Tiffany Club of New England would urge each of you in our community to
participate as you can either in one of these events or, in a moment of silence remembering those who have passed.

TCNE Office Upgrade to Kick Off November 15th, 2008 3PMIf you've been to TCNE lately you've noticed some changes. Furniture being moved around, new heating put in place (yes we now consistantly HAVE HEAT)
well there's more to come. TCNE is on a major move to do non-leashold changes to our offices. You'll see lots happening and ideas are always and keenly
welcome. So what is happening this Saturday November 15th?
This Saturday Novemeber 15th is both our House Party and a Kick Off of the TCNE Office Upgrade! We'll be continueing efforts already underway by adding
some brand new draperies. This will be a multi-stage project over the course of the next few weeks.

Comprehensive National Survey on Transgender Discrimination Launched by National Center
for Transgender Equality and National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
In the wake of one of the most violent years on record of assaults on transgender people, the National Center
for Transgender Equality (NCTE) and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (The Task Force) have teamed
up on a comprehensive national survey to collect data on discrimination against transgender people in housing,
employment, public accommodation, health care, education, family life and criminal justice.

TCNE co-sponsors the New England Transgender Pride March and Rally, June 7th, 11AM Northhampton MA.
TCNE is proud to sign on to co-sponsor this historic event for all transgender people in our community!
The first New England Transgender Pride March and Rally will be held on June 7, 2008 in Northampton, MA. The event is organized by members of the trans and gender variant community, and their allies, with the intent of taking a visible and positive stand for transgender rights. The March and Rally is dedicated to diverse representation among organizers and participants. We seek to educate and build awareness of the movement against gender-based discrimination. We promote self-acceptance and acceptance of our whole identities and lives. We gather to celebrate and affirm our individuality, diversity, and strength.
The Transgender Pride March and Rally 2008 seeks to:
* Build a community of compassionate and open-minded individuals who represent all gender expressions, and wish to unapologetically stand up for their civil and human rights.
* Address the institutionalized and intrapersonal racism, classism, ageism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination faced by many trans and gender variant people on a daily basis.
* Promote the self-determination of all trans and gender variant people, in support of the International Bill of Gender Rights: http://www.transgenderlegal.com/ibgr.htm.
* Unite with one another and allies to speak out for social, economic, and political justice of under-represented and marginalized communities, and support the right of all communities to be heard

At
First Event 2008 a new sponsor was featured call La Dame footwear.
What set this new sponsor apart were two things. First, the
company is a shoe company run by an executive from a famous make shoe
company. Second, they decided to offer women's shoes built on a

low cost cosmetic changes; re-arranging to spruce the club up. We'll
probably need to spend a little money for this, not much, but enough to give our
elbow grease some help is all.

TCNE partners with UCSF On-Line Smoking Cessation Program
Tiffany Club was just recently contacted by Susan McIntyre, Staff
Research Associate at UCSF Department of Psychiatry’s Habit Abatement
Clinic regarding their new online smoking cessation program, iQuit. We
wholeheartedly agreed and wanted to tell you all about it.

Elections. We have missed our deadline and are now in violation of our

from what we can tell. The key appears to be lack of
people's desires to run for a variety
of real or perceived reasons. I
would suggest that good solid participants in TCNE are
what's key to
it's long term life, not necessarily money.

Thoughts on how to open up participation of the club's members. So,
how do we
make it possible for regular non-key holders to run Saturday
Nights? Or how do we
energize some to take some leading rolls?

Scholarships: These are closed door, executive session, board only
meetings in
order to be respectful of those who have applied for a
scholarship membership. We
never post pics or release personal
information about anyone unless they want that to happen.

TCNE Fund: This is something that is a touchy subject but one I feel
we must broach.
What I mean by this is not giving away the TCNE
operating budget, which keeps our doors
open and allows us to have the
necessary funds to run First Event every year, but rather,
putting
aside some of our operating budget, starting this year, to give away to
worthy causes.

A
key differentiator for TCNE is our ability to help others. One way we
help is by providing
a safe space for people to start trying to figure
out what is going on with themselves regarding
being transgender. I
think as a club we underestimate this value. There are many who turn
to
substance abuse to relieve or help suppress their gender issues.
Wouldn't it be nicer to just deal with who you are constructively and respectfully?
TCNE provides a safe space for that as a stepping stone
to
living a better life. It sounds kinda corny but I think it's true. In
fact, many of the trans-women
you see as leaders in the Greater Boston
transgender community today took their very first steps
out of the
closet and into TCNE's club house. Why? Because it was a safe, first
step. And they
grew as women and in some cases as men for the few
FtM's we've been blessed to have with us.

All of the community will be at one of these events and something like this can really make you understand how connected we are to each other and how important it is for us to support each other.
Before the event there is the MTPC Town Hall, also something that is valuable to participate in if you can make it. This year MA StateRepresentative Carl Sciortino will be speaking on House Bill 1722, "An Act Relative to Gender-Based Discrimination and Hate Crimes". This should be an exciting and interesting time to join with other across the transgender community.
