In 1962, she formed the Hose & Heels Club, composed mainly of Cross-dressers in the Los Angeles area, many of whom were subscribers to the magazine. The Club restricted itself to members who described themselves as heterosexual Cross-dressers. This restriction (requirement) has been carried forward through its subsequent organizations to date. The Club changed its name to Freedom of Personality Expression (FPE) in late 1962, and launched a nationwide campaign to form affiliated groups, or chapters, with similar interests. The founding group called itself the Alpha Chapter of FPE.
