Workshop Wednesday: A Holistic Approach to Gender Affirming Care and the Creation of the TEAMS Program at The Spiegel Center

What is this workshop about?
Gender-affirming surgeries are physical changes to the face and body with the primary purpose of improving the patients mental health and emotional well being.  That’s alot to absorb. It can also be a challenge to be an informed consumer in this surgical marketplace. There are so many questions:

-Who will I look like after surgery?
-What is recovery like?
-What does gender euphoria feel like?

With any gender-affirming surgery, most patients will heal twice. As the face and body physically heal, the authentic self will be revealed. As the True Self starts to shine, it’s emotional healing time!  Transitioning is a long road for many. It is important to support each other along the way in every and in all possible ways. This workshop will discuss the ways that we heal, the support we need and how The Spiegel Center’s TEAMS Program can be an important part of this process, for those choosing gender-affirming surgeries with the Spiegel Center.

Who is our speaker?
Our speaker is Juliana Wall. Juliana is a transwoman who wears alot of hats. Some hats are warm, some are fancy, and some are figurative. After two decades in operations management for a Fortune 50 company, she decided, in a moment of midlife clarity, that she’s on this planet to help people in meaningful ways. She currently works for The Spiegel Center as the first ever Transition Specialist providing guidance and emotional support for patients who have gender affirming Facial Feminization Surgery, as well as other Gender Affirming Procedures.

Juliana also serves as the President of Trans Community of New England (TCNE), the all volunteer organization best known for First Event Conference, held every January in Boston MA.  Juliana is passionate about helping people connect to the resources they need. She is an avid storyteller and a public speaker — she’ll make you laugh and she’ll make you cry (in the best of ways!). She loves meeting new people, exploring nature, and taking in culture whenever she can.  Juliana is excited to meet you!
