On April 10, 1870, two men, Ernest Boulton and Frederick Park, were arrested for impersonating women in public. They were charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.
The tabloid newspapers went frenetic. They covered every sordid detail, including the color of their underwear. A year later, May 1871, they were acquitted of all charges. It should be noted that Boulton and Park had rented a flat to use for storage and changing. (Some things never change.)
