First Event is a celebration of transgender people, and a platform for us to show that we are so much more than just our gender identity and expression. We use this platform to showcase the incredible talent of so many in our community, as artists, performers, and models. And we have TWO opportunities for you to join in the fun!
Translations Art Show
The Art Show at First Event exclusively features the work of transgender and gender non-conforming artists. In 2020, the art show featured many thoughtful, beautiful and provocative pieces exclusively the work of transgender and gender non-conforming artists. The show runs Friday and Saturday of the conference, with a cocktail reception from 4-6pm on Friday. Artists are encouraged, but not required, to attend the reception to speak with guests about their work.
Open Mic
The open mic runs from 9:30-11pm on Saturday night. All performers welcome – sing, play an instrument, tell a story, share a poem. We’ll provide the mic, the stage, and a keyboard; you provide any additional instruments. Please keep instrument setup to a minimum.

transFORMED Fashion Show
The fashion show features dozens of models and performers of all ages and gender expressions. We have a sufficient number of adult transfeminine models, but are still accepting applications for people primarily in the following broad categories:
- Youth (under 18)
- Young Adults (18 -30)
- Transmasculine, masc, male-identified/male-presenting
- Non-binary
