The United Methodist Church is one of the last mainline protestant churches in the country to maintain an exclusion from full membership for LGBTQ members. The Church is now in the process of formally splitting over these issues, specifically the marriage, ordination, appointment, funding and sponsorship of openly gay, lesbian, and transgender individuals. Michelle will discuss the origin of these exclusions and why they continued to this day, unlike most protestant churches.
